My teaching and learning practices have been greatly enriched through participation in VEDIC workshops like Scientific Educational Practices, Inspire-Impact-Introspect Levels 1 and 2, and Formative Assessment Techniques.

Implementing the learnings from these workshops has transformed my teaching across courses such as Java Programming, Problem Solving through Python, etc. I have incorporated active learning strategies like Think Pair Share, Flipped Classrooms, Kahoot, and Relay Coding, leading to increased student engagement and comprehension and later student success.

I have published this work in journal articles and I continue to remain committed to advancing sound pedagogical practices which is reflected in student learning as well as feedback on teaching. I am deeply grateful to VEDIC and SVES management for empowering me with the tools and knowledge to enhance teaching and learning outcomes effectively.

I attended the following programs at VEDIC – Scientific Educational Practices, Inspire-Impact-Introspect Levels 1 and 2, Mentoring and Counselling. After attending these programs, I learned how to address misconceptions, use minute papers and concept maps, and how to use worksheets for difficult topics.

I implemented these skills with my students, which improved their understanding and resulted in good learning outcomes.

Additionally, I gained comprehensive knowledge of writing course outcomes and understanding Bloom’s Taxonomy from the VEDIC programs. This knowledge has been immensely helpful in establishing clear learning goals, and I have also been able to guide my colleagues regarding this. Thank you very much to the SVES management and the VEDIC team.

ILEA (Intellectual Learning for Engineering Applications) was a wonderful workshop, it helped me to come up with a new idea that my team members and I will be working on…this is what drastically changed before and after VEDIC – it’s ‘The Idea’. Apart from this, it helped me understand my natural abilities better and also this workshop assisted me in reflecting on myself.

I’m grateful to the mentors for their guidance and insight throughout the workshop. Their expertise and support were invaluable. Workshops like these should be continued for future batches, I believe it will help our college reach great heights by fostering innovation and personal growth among students. I thank BVRIT management for providing me with the opportunity to attend such a transformative workshop.

The ILEA workshop was a transformative experience for me. I had always admired those who could speak spontaneously with confidence and fluency, and now, thanks to this workshop, I am one of them. The program dramatically boosted my ability to communicate without fear, a change I deeply appreciate.

Working collaboratively with a team became second nature to me, and the storytelling exercises were particularly thrilling. They pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me discover a new way of expressing myself.

One of the most impactful aspects was the character assessment. It provided insights into my strengths and weaknesses, highlighting areas for improvement. I learned how our thoughts shape our character and how expressing gratitude can deepen and enhance our relationships.

I am determined to apply these lessons in my daily life. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the mentors, whose expertise made the workshop both educational and enjoyable, and to the college management for organizing such a remarkable program.

Attending the Faculty Research Colloquium at Vedic has significantly enriched my research perspective in the daily teaching-learning process. It has also helped me foster a competitive spirit among students by applying modern pedagogical techniques to enhance active learning and engagement. After participating in VEDIC’s programs on Scientific Educational Practices (SEP-1), Inspire-Impact-Introspect Level-1, and Mentoring-Counseling, I have learned effective ways to address student misconceptions.

I have conducted activities such as think-pair-share, open book exams, chit-chat sessions, padlet,  and polling in one of my teaching subjects, aligning these with specific course objectives. Student performance was assessed before and after these activities, and it was observed that their performance noticeably improved, along with enhanced peer learning. The results of this research were published in the Journal of Engineering Education Transformations (Parvathi, M.: “Activity Based Analysis and Prediction Strategy for the Classroom Performance Improvement,” Journal of Engineering Education Transformations, ISSN 2394-1707. http://journaleet.org/index.php/jeet/article/view/157167.08 Feb. 2021, p. 686-693, Jan. 2021. doi:10.16920/jeet/2021/v34i0/157167).

Through VEDIC, I had the privilege of working on a research project titled “Customized Named Entity Recognition (NER) for Skillset Extraction from CourseNetworking (CN)” in collaboration with CourseNetworking (thecn.com). CN is an academic networking platform with millions of users from over 160 countries and was seed-funded by Indiana University. The research I led, focused on NER, a task aimed at extracting knowledge from massive data, was applied to the CN platform to identify users’ skillsets, facilitating the formation of social communities.

The research findings were published as “Customized Named Entity Recognition using BERT for the Social Learning Management System Platform CourseNetworking” in the Journal of Computer Science (https://doi.org/10.3844/jcssp.2024.88.95) during January 2024. Also, I am pleased to have had an M. Tech scholar engaged in this research. I extend my gratitude to our Principal, SVES Management, and the VEDIC team for this enriching research experience, which has significantly contributed to my professional growth.

I feel lucky to be a family member of Sri Vishu Educational Society, which recognized the importance of the holistic approach towards Education. The programmes conducted by VEDIC helped us to design our teaching sessions, emphasizing more on the course outcome. In VEDIC, I attended various workshops like Scientific Educational Practices, Inspire-Impact-Introspect Levels 1 and 2, Think- Technology – Transform and Research Readiness Strategies. These programmes taught us the tools and strategies for Active Learning implementation, and thus engaging the students also in the Teaching- Learning process. The award for the ‘Best Teaching Practices’ which VEDIC Team accorded based on the presentations made in the first Faculty Colloquium, encouraged me to have more interest in implementing the strategies learnt. I feel happy and proud to say that I’m a part of the Teaching Quality Team, which make me feel more responsible towards the teaching process.

The workshop ‘Research Readiness Strategies’ happened when I just enrolled for PhD. The sessions helped me to understand the preparatory steps and practices that researchers should undertake while taking up their research projects. Starting from developing a research mindset, the programme addressed the frequent questions like how to do literature survey, how to plan project stages and how to publish the research works.

Now I have completed works related to my PhD course and is awarded the Doctoral degree. Also, a journal paper is getting ready based on the strategies which were implemented in the classrooms. I’m deeply indebted to the guidance by VEDIC in this regard. Also I express my sincere gratitude to Sri Vishu Educational Society for dedicating a centre, focusing exclusively on the Personal & Professional development of Students and Faculty.

The ILEA (Intellectual Learning for Engineering Applications) workshop held at VEDIC, Hyderabad was an enlightening experience that deepened my understanding of innovative problem-solving and personal growth. It skilfully integrated learning with creativity and enjoyment. I learned unique approaches to presenting my ideas through drama, storytelling, and charts, which helped visualize my ideas more effectively and creatively. This exercise not only ignited my problem-solving skills but also encouraged me to think outside the box and innovate with limited resources.

Moreover, the psychometric assessment was a significant part of the workshop. It helped me gain deeper insights into my strengths and weaknesses, enabling me to focus on areas that needed improvement. We were also introduced to various effective learning techniques and presentation skills, which I believe set us apart from others. Overall, the ILEA workshop was a fun-filled and enriching experience that every student deserves.

Thanks to the SVES management and the VEDIC team.
